Diesel sailboat

Hi-looking to buy an older small sailboat with a diesel engine. Reason-is we are planning a trip down the Erie Canal this year. We also have other trips planned and need to trailer the sailboat long distances. A sailboat is the only type of boat that I found that has a diesel engine.
Is narrow and can house two to four people during the day with good mileage
My question can you advise what brand/make of sailboat to look at to buy.
I need one that has a small/short center board, or a center board that can be taken up.
We do not plan to sleep on it, stopping at night at marinas.
I hope my question is not to stupid.
