All About the Optima-Battery

All About the Optima-Battery

If you own a sailing boat then you also know that they are relatively difficult and have loads of systems that can stop working or necessitate upkeep. You may have one of my marine electrical or marine electronics books or a book in the Understanding Boat series and I trust you found it helpful and instructive

I am a certified and practising marine electrical and electronics engineer as well as a marine surveyor. I am also a yachtsman just like you and I have built and cruised a number of yachts. I have performed sailing sailing yacht overhaul work on countless other sailing boats lived aboard many cruising sailing boats for a decade or more. You learn a lot about what works and what fails. I extend hardheaded pointers based on experience and reality. Like many I choose to do my own yacht repair work as experts can charge some frightening hourly rates.

It is a truth that the majority of all yacht electrical and electronics failures are directly caused by faulty wiring and bad cable connections. These same failures are also a chief cause of fires on sailing yachts. Just because the average sailing yacht has only a 12 volt electrical system, this will not prevent grave problems or fires. One improperly rated and installed cable and an equally poor connection could potentially demolish you yacht.

The latest edition of The Marine Electrical and Electronics Bible is out now, fully revised and updated with all the latest technology
